Few watches illustrate Vacheron Constantin’s artistic ambition as eloquently as its map-dial creations. The present example unites a yellow-gold case with an enamel dial depicting a richly detailed cartographic scene across Africa, Arabia and India. The composition is both decorative and intellectual, drawing its strength not only from colour and craft, but from the cultural language of navigation, geography and exploration.

The dial architecture is especially striking. Rather than conventional hands, the watch displays time through a highly distinctive system using divider-shaped indicators, visually echoing the instruments of mapmaking itself. This harmony between subject and display is one of the defining strengths of Vacheron Constantin’s most imaginative artistic watches, and it is precisely what gives the present piece its rare sense of coherence and character.

Viewed from the reverse, the watch reveals a signed automatic movement beneath a sapphire display back, with a decorated 22k gold rotor and traditional Geneva-style finishing visible in the supplied image.
