A highly distinctive rose-gold chronograph created to mark an important anniversary at Patek Philippe, combining uncommon dial architecture with one of the maison’s most unusual modern chronograph designs.
Sourced from the original owner.
The Patek Philippe reference 5975R-001 occupies a singular place within the manufacture’s contemporary production. Introduced as part of the 175th anniversary collection, it departs from the familiar language of Patek Philippe’s modern chronographs in favour of something more graphic, more instrument-like, and ultimately more individual. Produced in a limited run of 400 examples in rose gold, the reference has come to be appreciated not only for its commemorative significance, but for the confidence of its design and the rarity of its execution.
Its 40 mm rose-gold case, with closed caseback and sharply stepped lugs, gives the watch a presence that feels both architectural and entirely distinct within the modern Patek Philippe catalogue. The silver dial is the defining feature of the model, bringing together tachymeter, telemeter, and pulsometer scales in a layout rarely encountered in contemporary production. Just as striking is the absence of conventional sub-registers, lending the watch an unusual clarity and a technical, almost vintage-instrument character that sets it apart from more traditional chronograph references.
Powering the watch is a special adaptation of the self-winding calibre CH 28-520, developed for the reference and based on Patek Philippe’s modern flyback chronograph architecture. Patek Philippe describes the CH 28-520 family as a self-winding flyback chronograph calibre with central chronograph hand, 21K gold central rotor, and a minimum power reserve of 50 hours. In the 5975R-001, this movement underlines the watch’s unusual position within the brand’s chronograph lineage: mechanically modern, but conceived with a strong nod to historical multi-scale chronographs.
This example is offered as a full set dated June 2015 and is consigned from the original owner. Complete, unworn, uncommon, and immediately recognisable, the 5975R-001 remains one of the most characterful anniversary references of the modern era — a Patek Philippe chronograph defined less by convention than by design conviction, rarity, and lasting collector appeal.
