Daniel Roth Tourbillon “Double Face” Ref. 2187 – 18K Pink Gold, Full Set, Circa 1993
A rare and exquisitely preserved Daniel Roth Tourbillon “Double Face” reference 2187 in 18k pink gold, featuring a double-sided display, visible tourbillon, retrograde indications, and an exceptional full set of original accessories.
Offered here is an exceptionally rare and highly important Daniel Roth Tourbillon “Double Face,” reference 2187, one of the most emblematic creations of one of the great independent watchmakers of the late 20th century. Fresh to the market and preserved in outstanding condition, this early pink gold example captures the originality, refinement, and mechanical imagination that established Daniel Roth as one of the defining figures of modern independent horology.
Daniel Roth is widely regarded as one of the most influential watchmakers of his generation. After beginning his career at Audemars Piguet and later playing a central role in the revival of Breguet, he went on to found his own maison in 1987, creating a distinctive visual and technical language that quickly became unmistakable. Among his earliest and most celebrated achievements was the double-sided tourbillon wristwatch, a model that helped fuel the modern fascination with the tourbillon wristwatch and remains one of his signature masterpieces.
The present watch displays all the hallmarks of Roth’s genius. On the front, the composition is dominated by the large visible tourbillon aperture, accompanied by a highly ingenious triple-arm running seconds display, with each arm tracing a separate 20-second scale. Turning the watch over reveals an equally compelling mechanical spectacle, with retrograde power reserve and retrograde date indications displayed on the reverse side. The result is a timepiece that is as intellectually satisfying as it is visually distinctive, offering meaningful complication and design interest on both faces of the watch.
Housed in a rare 18k pink gold ellipsocurvex case and sold by Seibu Fujisawa, Japan in 1993, this example is accompanied by an exceptionally complete set including its original guarantee, COSC certificate, instruction manual, product literature, photograph, additional crocodile strap, fitted presentation box, and outer packaging. Elegant, historically important, and increasingly difficult to source in this level of completeness, the Tourbillon “Double Face” reference 2187 is a landmark Daniel Roth creation and a prize for the serious collector of independent watchmaking.
