Description
Offered here is an extremely rare and highly attractive F.P. Journe Octa Automatique Réserve de Marche, one of the foundational models of the independent maker’s modern legend and one of the key watches that established François-Paul Journe among the most revered watchmakers of his era. Alongside the Tourbillon Souverain and Chronomètre à Résonance, the Octa Réserve de Marche forms part of the original trilogy that defined the early identity of the brand and helped shape the modern landscape of independent haute horlogerie.
Introduced in 2001, the Octa collection represented a major technical and conceptual achievement. François-Paul Journe set out to create an automatic movement that combined practicality, precision, and long autonomy, resulting in the calibre 1300, a remarkably slim and compact automatic movement offering approximately five days of power reserve while accommodating a large date and power reserve display. Its architecture was so intelligently integrated that the same base calibre would go on to support an entire family of Octa complications, making it one of the great movement designs of contemporary watchmaking.
This early example is especially important for several reasons. Housed in the desirable first-generation 38 mm platinum case, it is powered by the sought-after brass movement that collectors regard as among the most desirable of all early Journe watches. The dial is the rare and especially attractive pink gold variant, widely considered the most beautiful of the early dial executions. Warm pink in tone and almost pale salmon at certain angles, it offers a striking contrast against the cool platinum case while preserving the refined asymmetry that defines the model, including the eccentric time display, oversized date aperture, and power reserve indicator.
Equally appealing is the exceptional state of preservation. While many early gold dials are known to develop patina or oxidation over time, the present example has retained its original beauty with remarkable freshness. Offered by its original owner and accompanied by its original guarantee stamped Mezger Switzerland and dated August 2005, instruction manual, fitted presentation box, and outer packaging, this circa 2002 Octa Réserve de Marche is an outstanding collector’s example of one of the most important early F.P. Journe references. Rare, elegant, and technically significant, it represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a grail-level first-generation Journe.
